The lesson
A business is a system that solves a problem for people and captures part of the value it creates in return. That's it. Everything else — branding, operations, hiring — serves that core exchange: create value, capture value. Beginners overcomplicate business or treat it as mysterious, when the fundamental question is always simple: what painful problem do you solve, for whom, and how do you get paid fairly for it? A business that creates lots of value but captures none goes broke; one that tries to capture without creating gets rejected. The healthiest businesses create so much value that customers are happy to pay, and the business keeps a sustainable margin. Throughout this arena you'll build on this lens: every decision comes back to creating more value for a specific customer and capturing enough of it to grow. See business plainly as a value-creation-and-capture machine, and the fog clears. The rest is learning to build and run that machine well.
